Khashooga خاشوقة Prounounced Khaa-shoo-gah translates to the Emirati word that refers to Spoon in the UAE.
With a handful of fancy schamncy restaurants opening by the dozen single day, it get heavy. And by that I mean the etiquette of entering a fancy restaurant. You get the glare towards your season old heels to the authenticity of your Chanel bag twitch, to the "Look at how she's eating that Burger" goggle. I'm not saying its bad, its just not comfortable, I mean come on? Everyday?
It induced a movement, between me and my dear Friend Reem Al Awadhi, we just didn't really find appeal in such areas, we preferred the simple stuff. Driving to that Killer Cafateria, finding the Perfect Beef Tagine in a Family run Moroccan Restaurant, to the friendly atmosphere of the currently "It" Filipino Restaurant.
Thats why we came up with Khashooga.
Khashooga is a visual documentation project on Instagram, where we have begun sharing our scouts around Dubai Town to get the public to try these places out. We think that areas like Karama, Satwa, Bur Dubai, Deira, Abu hail, and many other not so developed areas contain some of the best restaurants in town, where they truly focus on the Food, and the authenticity of everything surrounding it. And we think you should get a glimpse of it too.
We also create video recipes that revive old Emirate eating habits that revolve around "Street Food" , like ones where locals would smash killer sambosa's into bread rolls and drizzle them with a famously distributed Texas Hot Sauce. Delicious.
To join our growing documentation of these areas, simply follow @Khashooga_ On instagram and don't forget to leave the heels at home.
