Seafood soup & Dubai city of gold market

So yesterday while at the market, my eye caught a glimpse of a small packet of mixed seafood that begged to be bought. I couldnt resist those cute octopus’s & tiny prawns and indeed took the pack back home. The next day, which is today :) i decided to make delicious yet simple soup.

I dont think i’ve ever had octopus.

-1/4 kg of mixed seafood (Calamari, squid, octopus, prawn)

-6 tablespoons of olive oil.

-1 teaspoon of butter.

-1 small onion (Or 1/2 a big one) chopped well.

-2 cloves of garlic, chopped.

-2 cans of chopped tomatoes (each is 400grams)

-1 tablespoon of pesto.

-1 medium potato, grated

-1/2 cup of fresh mushrooms

-3 quarts of chicken stock (12 cups)

-Salt & pepper

-Toasted country bread to top off soup.

Add the olive oil & butter to a big pot and heat. Add the onions & garlic and saute until softened and slightly browned. Add the potatoes and keep cooking for 5 more minutes then add the mushrooms and cook for another 3 minutes. Pour the stock, canned tomatoes, pesto, and seafood. Sprinkle the salt & pepper and allow to simmer for 1 hour. Once ready, break the luscious toasted bread on top and enjoy.

NOW :) After making this soup. Me, Mama, and grama headed off to Dubai city of gold. This is one of Dubai oldest gold markets. Traditional merchandise is sold here such as jalabiyas (traditional female dresses), fabrics, and of course, Gold.
